Mao Nimaijita (ニ舞下 猫 Nimaijita Mao) is a supporting character of the Anime and Web Manga series. He is the deputy supervising officer of Building 2, though in his first appearance is seen filling in for an absent Building 8 supervisor. He was forced to resign by Taiga Nikaidou.

Appearance[]

Mao is a young man of below-average height. He wears a variation of the classic guard uniform with subtle changes, such as the specialized band around the arm. He has his silver badge, which says "ニ舞下", on his right breast. His eyes are seen as blue, and his hair is an orange color with streaks of tan and brown. As a guard of building 2, he wears a blue armband on his left arm.

Personality[]

Mao seems to be a cynical guy who antagonizes Samon Gokuu by comparing him to his brother. He is also a tsundere.[1]

Background[]

Mao met Noriko Sanzou, Enki Gokuu and Samon Gokuu at a young age. He was from the city.

Mao is seen mocking Samon for his past, comparing him to his brother and parking him as a potential traitor. His mocking goes far enough for Samon to storm out, and after a catty line about Samon's fragility, he is slapped by Kiji Mitsuba.

Trivia[]

  • The name Mao means "cat" (猫) in Chinese.
  • Mao's surname Nimaijita means "two" (ニ) (ni), "dance" (舞) (mai) and "under, below" (下) (jita).
    • Part of the surname Ni means "Two", which is referencing Building 2 of Nanba Prison.
  • Being from Building 2, as well as bearing two tails, Mao may be a reference to Nekomata, a cat demon in Japanese folklore that has two tails.
  • Mao loves money, which may be a reference to Maneki-neko (beckoning cats), which are often seen holding a coin.
    • It could also be a reference to the Japanese idiom "gold coins to a cat", which is equivalent to the English idiom "to cast pearls before swine", which means not to waste something on someone who doesn't understand it's value.[2]
  • Mao's earrings resemble koban, which are ancient Japanese coins.
